Kaka Point represents the Northern start of The Catlins on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Kaka Point is easily accessible from Dunedin, and you can turn off the State Highway out to Kaka Point from Balclutha. From here you will have approximately a 30 minute drive through small townships before hitting the coast. You will travel alongside the Clutha River a short way as you watch the river meander slowly towards it’s end a few kilometers later into Molyneux Bay.
The road will then run along the beach, and the views would be stunning on a beautiful day as they were pretty amazing on the overcast day that we visited this beach. You will then hit a gravel road that you can follow all the way to Nugget Point and the lighthouse there.
